Such addiction not only affects the individual’s family alone, but the society as a whole. It is generally believed that addiction or intoxication of any kind is a social and psychological problem, which would require a holistic approach, keeping in mind the affected person’s socio-economic condition and atmosphere in mind. Ayurveda philosophy adopts a systematic approach in treatment of such cases and recommends herbal medicines, personal counseling, exercises and meditation, as part of the therapy programme. Many herbs like NUX-Vomica when purified and thereafter used in various addictions are found to be highly useful.
