ayurvedic treatment of de addiction

Ayurveda can treat de addiction of alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco or any kind of drugs. We are all well aware that addiction of any kind is bound to leave its own negative impacts on those who may knowingly or unknowingly get addicted to them. Such addiction not only affects the individual’s family alone, but the society as a whole. It is generally believed that addiction or intoxication of any kind is a social and psychological problem, which would require a holistic approach, keeping in mind the affected person’s socio-economic condition and atmosphere in mind. Ayurveda philosophy adopts a systematic approach in treatment of such cases and recommends herbal medicines, personal counseling, exercises and meditation, as part of the therapy programme. Many herbs like NUX-Vomica when purified and thereafter used in various addictions are found to be highly useful.

How Addiction is diagnosed through ayurvedic treatment ?

The Ayurvedic way of diagnosis involves detailed understanding of the individual’s characteristics, habits, sleep patterns, body type, hereditary traits, as a first step. This is followed by understanding of tridoshas within an individual. Diagnosis may also include clinical tests. Other techniques used for diagnosis in Ayurveda are examining of tongue, nails, eye diagnosis and diagnosing the pulse. These provide vital clues about nature and tendencies of the individual.

Consuming large quantities of fresh fruits during the first thirty days of treatment, particularly grapes, dates and apples, helps limit desires. Consuming plenty of food containing vitamin B6 such as nuts, whole grains and green vegetables are advised.
